Learning to live in the likeness of Christ

“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV

Who are you? Who are you working to become? I think sometimes there is such a pressure to find yourself, find your hobbies, find who you wanna date, and you have to figure out who you are. But life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself. So, a better question would be who are you creating?

Create yourself.

What if we could alleviate all the pressure and just work to become more like Jesus? We already have an example of the most perfect person, so why are we wasting so much time trying to find something new? We don’t need to worry about what people see when they look at us, because we need to be constantly showing people Jesus. We need to be a reflection of Jesus. I think it is important for us to remember that we are ultimately in control of the image we give off. And we can get so caught up in trying to be cool or trying to be liked that we lose sight of what matters.

Be content in Jesus.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:1-2 ESV

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“ Matthew 11:29 ESV

There can be so many voices telling us what is cool, what is in style, who we should be, who we should date and we can sometimes feel like we’re not good enough. But we don’t have to be. We don’t have work to try and find our cool and like-able inner selves, we just need to be more like Jesus. Jesus’s way is better. We can focus on things that are not of this world, and we can have peace and rest if we learn to be content with Jesus.

Living in the likeness of Christ.

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5.1-2 ESV

We are commanded to imitate God, to walk in love, and to sacrifice. Our personality should be one that Jesus had. We need to be working every day to create someone who strives to be like Jesus, who loves people like Jesus does, and who keeps their eyes focused on heavenly things. I want to encourage all of us to not get caught up in the pressure of society but instead work to imitate Christ. Stop searching to find someone better deep down in yourself, because you’re not gonna find it. Instead, learn to live in the likeness of Christ and create someone who imitates Him every day.

In Christian Love,

Julianna
